As part of cancer prevention efforts and the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, the National Leading Cancer Research Center/University of Baghdad organized a scientific seminar titled ‘The Importance of Early Detection of Cervical Cancer’ held at the College of Islamic Sciences on Thursday, November 30, 2023, by Dr. Kawakeb Najm Al-Din Abdullah (The Director of Center), addressed topics related to the causes of cervical cancer, highlighting the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and its transmission, along with the stages of cancer development and the importance of early detection.
The seminar featured an active discussion session with Dr. Kawakeb Najm Al-Din, who answered all audience questions and noted the examination’s clinics locations in the Iraqi hospitals. This initiative is part of the center’s efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer and cervical cancer, especially during Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.
In conclusion, Dr. Kawakeb emphasized the importance of providing the HPV vaccine as part of efforts against violence against women, as the virus is a major cause of cervical cancer.
