As a part of cancer prevention efforts and public awareness, the National Leading Cancer Research Center/University of Baghdad organized a scientific seminar titled ‘The Importance of Early Detection of Cervical Cancer.’ The seminar took place on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Urban and Regional Planning Center/University of Baghdad.
Presided the seminar Dr. Kawakeb Najm Al-Din Abdullah, the director of the National Leading Cancer Research Center along with Assistant Professor Basim Mohammed Khushman. The seminar covered important topics related to the causes of cervical cancer, highlighting the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), its causes, transmission methods, as well as the stages of cancer’s development and the importance of detecting in early stages.
The event featured an active discussion session that brought together the attendees and the lecturing faculty, addressing attendees’ questions and noted the examinations’ clinics locations in the Iraqi hospitals and specialized clinics. This seminar is a part of the center’s efforts for community’s awareness about cervical cancer, coinciding with the 16 day of the campaign violence against women.
In conclusion, the center’s director emphasized the importance of providing the HPV vaccine as part of efforts against violence against women, considering the virus as the primary cause of cervical cancer.”
